<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">*I was given a copy of this book for free from the author in exchange for an honest review. *

I really enjoyed reading this book, it started out with a cliffhanger and ended with a perfect resolution, but there was a lot going on throughout! The main characters started out fresh, relatable and with an instant chemistry that you could feel through the pages. They were able to continue to grow throughout the book and it actually felt like you were there with them! I wanted to pick up the phone and call the characters that's how real they seemed while I was reading. There was love, romance, mystery and suspense throughout to make it the perfect book for anyone's favorite genre. I also loved learning about mountain climbing and loved the fact that there was a glossary of terms in the back for those of us who aren't familiar with climbing terminology. This was one of those books that you really still think about long after you have finished reading it and also one that once you start you keep telling yourself, just one more page and I will put it down, only to finish it without putting it down! This was the first book that I have read by Charli Webb but it won't be the last!

Twenty-one year-old Ashley Steele is the only daughter of billionaire copper magnate and developer Walter Steele. For most of her life, ever since Ashley was seven and he forced her mother to leave after finding her in bed with his CFO, Walter has spoiled Ashley shamelessly. While she loves her father, Ashley has complicated feelings around her mother’s departure, and has been exacting a unique form of revenge on her dad for a while now. Following her absent mother’s lead for a reason she can’t name, Ashley has been seducing her father’s employees one by one. At the same time, her neighbor’s son has blackmailed her into dating him steadily. But she may have met her match when she goes after Jake Daniels, a general contractor on one of Walter’s buildings. Love wasn’t on her agenda. To make matters worse, Walter is facing a severe financial setback. Can this spoiled little rich girl grow up fast enough to help things turn out right for her dad? Will she get what she wants from Jake and move on as she always has before? Or has he captured her heart?
I really enjoy love triangle books. It's always a recipe for disaster and a ton of drama which is what I like to read about. This book is about a spoiled girl who grew up wondering why her mother left her at a young age. She is expected to marry one man, Dirk, but falls in love with another, Jake. Her bad habits get in the way and Jake decides he no longer wants her in his life. Something unexpectantly happens with her family and it leaves all of them reevaluating their lives and having to make change. She's determined to get Jake back but at what lengths will she have to go? I'm looking forward to reading the next book to find out what happens.
This year my obsession with reading has taken me onto a path, that I never thought it would. I started THIS blog and my Facebook page (www.facebook.com/agirlamongstbooks) to start talking about what I was reading and to connect with like minded enthusiasts. I have "met" many great authors, bloggers and readers along the way. THANK YOU TO EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOU. You all make what I do a ton of fun.
I've been asked what are my TOP 10 Favorite Books of this past year. Now that being asked I have to admit, I am behind on reading what is "current" in the romance department....I have yet to "meet" quite a few of these "book boyfriends" that everyone is always talking about. (I VOW to try to "meet" them in 2014..lol). I've read 103 books, so far, this year and while compiling this list, realized that I have quite an eclectic taste in books! I think a little of each genre is represented one way or another in my list. So here are the TOP 10 from that list (IN NO SPECIFIC ORDER).
With that being said, I really enjoyed this book. Some parts of the story were easily predictable, but I think that made the story fly by. The ending of the book is a major cliffhanger and I didn't predict that at all! I was hoping for a neat little tidy ending and then boom....there was a cliffhanger to end all cliffhangers! Now I am on the edge of my seat wondering what will happen in the next book! I am looking forward to continuing the story of Ella and Porter and am rooting for them and for the "bad guys" to get what they deserve!!
The characters make you instantly like them, even when they are doing their best to make you not want to like them! This was a great book and I highly recommend it to anyone that is looking for a quick, fun read! Just beware that there will be another coming that you will want right away!! Now I will sit and wait for the next one and make up ideas and stories about the characters in my head until it is released, but it does give me something to look forward to.....stay tuned for book 2!!

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">In 2010, one of the most grisly discoveries in Texas history was made. Numerous
body parts and human remains were found on an abandoned farm near San Antonio.
Very little information was made public, until now.

Eddie Mason is a
family man. But his is not your typical family. With a wife at home who
belittles and ridicules him at every turn, he has sought other means of
satisfaction.

With his teenage daughter Brandi, and small son Jeffrey,
he teaches them the most horrifying of rituals. Using his kids as bait, Eddie
captures his victims and takes his children on a journey of torture, cannibalism
and mayhem. Learn what the Masons do on Family Night.
and stays with you long after you've finished and walked away. I am not easily
scared or shocked, but this book literally made me cringe several times from the
unsettling events that occur. The author writes in a way, that makes this story
totally believable. This also adds to the creepy, unsettled feeling you surely
will get by reading it. If you are looking for a gritty, dark, gory read; this
book is definitely for you. This can easily be read in one sitting! I look

Desperation Lingers doesn't want to die! She simply wants to break the habit of living another disastrous day. A guidance counselor at a Miami second chance school, she longs to be a teacher but sends the students scattering like roaches, calling her beastly names. Principal Hector Rivera says she's too high society, unable to relate. His criticism would be easier to take if the two weren't having a rocky, not-so-private affair. Still reeling from a series of failed marriages can she prove to Hector -- everyone -- that she has what it takes to lead a class? Recruiting three unlikely students, she devises a secret plan to instruct Miami's greatest social misfits the one subject she knows best -- etiquette. But who's teaching whom? And in the end, to what depths will Desperation plunge to learn the truth about life, love, and being a lady?

A romance of hilarity in the most nontraditional sense!
*I received a copy for free from the author in exchange for an honest review.*

This book is not the type I normally read. I knew this from the blurb, but something about it spoke to me. In the beginning, I wasn't really sure where the story was taking me, so I just sat back and let it unfold. I'm glad, that I took the time to step out of my "comfort" zone and read this. Desperation is NOT your typical heroine...actually she's everything you hope your heroine is NOT....(well at least in the beginning). She takes you on her journey of self discovery and along the way you feel uplifted as well. As a woman, I understood Dee's struggles. Not feeling like she is pretty enough, smart enough, worthy of anything good. I've been there and Dee's struggles really touched me..I quickly found myself rooting for her and when she would mess up or something disastrous would happen, I found myself saying "Pull it together Desperation!" There are a few twists that kept the story interesting and the ending had me tear up a little. The author really brings Dee's character to life and you can clearly picture her in your mind! I would recommend this book! Give it a shot!!!

This is a well written book. The author flawlessly added descriptions to the
scenery, what they wore, and how they felt. It was like I was right there in the
book with characters. It was exactly what I like in a book. It's a love story
between Kate and Sam with many triumphs and heartache along the way. Kate rides
into Hidden Springs and has a dark secret. Sam is determined to get her to love
him. Just when she does, something terrible happens and their world is
shattered. Will they ever get past it?
I love, love, loved it and can not wait for the second one to come out in January!!! The book was such a quick read (maybe since I couldn't put it down) that I finished it in two days! The characters are instantly relatable and make you want to root for the relationship right from the start. Anybody who has gone through their teen years into adulthood can find something that they may have experienced and can easily picture as themselves right from the start of the book! There is some mild erotic language/scenes in the book but nothing that makes you red in the face which is good since I was reading it with my family. I loved that the author didn't try to make the characters into villains and that the plot of the book was believable. A great read that I highly recommend to any and all!!! Enjoy!!

Sometimes all you need is Patience.

Life’s been hard for Zeke. Being a punching bag for his alcoholic father has turned him into stone. Not even the dodgy trailer park he lives in can scare him. Fighting is his release and sex, drugs, and his guitar bring him peace, but deep down Zeke isn’t quite as hard as he makes himself out to be. When he meets Patience, she finds all his broken pieces and puts him back together, but she’s a ray of light in his shadowed life and the last thing he wants to do is bring her into his dark world. Playing careless is easy, playing the bad guy can be fun, but playing Patience is impossible, especially when she can see right through him.

Zeke isn’t the only one who’s broken, and for the first time, in a long time, Patience feels alive. Her black and white world gets a shot of color when she meets Zeke. He’s unlike anyone she’s ever met with his tattoos, piercings, and blunt honesty. She wants nothing more than to let go and ride the wild side with him, but some wounds never heal and the broken pieces of Patience aren’t so easy to find.

***Warning: this book contains graphic language, sex, and violence. Review by Showdog:

Wow...this book blew me away.

"She was the sense of peace I’d been searching for in all the wrong places."

As soon as I read that it was about a tortured and tatted man-whore, and would be rock star from the wrong side of town I knew this would be for me. Yes I know there are lots of books out there with this kind of theme, and many of them are samey but this was one of the better versions I have read. I could not put it down, I devoured it in two sittings.

What really works well is the chemistry between Zeke and Patience (love that name). It isn't instalove, but rather they are drawn to one another because they are both suffering terrible abuse at home, but both of them are forced to keep it hidden from everyone else around them.

"Our lives weren’t so different. Abuse was abuse no matter its form. One wasn’t easier than the other; either way it hurt."

"Zeke and I were both broken parts of a whole person and no matter what piece you put where, it would fit, because we fit."

The abuse scenes were incredibly well written; they felt gritty, realistic and were a gut wrenching read. I'm not a great fan of very angsty reads because I like to escape and live a story, but unusually, I really enjoyed this in spite of the angst. What helped I think was the alternating pov, getting you into the character's head and allowing you to understand why they were behaving in that way. Early on, I wasn't sure if the alternating pov was going to work for me because the same events were told first through one character and then repeated in the next chapter through the other character, but as the story went on, I don't know whether I just got used to it, or whether it became less repetitive, but I found that grew on me and I started to look forward to hearing the other pov on that scene.

The sex scenes were really, hot, but even kisses were so well written and actually really sweet and tender that I got tingles. That's pretty rare in an angsty book.

"I’d been thinking about kissing her since the moment the last kiss ended."

The only reason this is a 4 and not a 5 star read for me was the pacing at the end. It seemed like as much happened in the last 50 pages as in the entire book yet it was summarised and flashed through - I don't understand why, I would love for it to have been written out in the same way as the rest of the book, but instead it all seemed a little rushed to me.

Highly recommended.

This continues the story of Zeke and Patience (still love that name) picking up immediately after the end of Playing Patience but - and this confused me - before the epilogue. At least having read the epilogue, I knew where it was ending up eventually, but it either presents a major spoiler or necessary reassurance for anyone embarking on this.

You need to read book 1 first or this book would make little sense to you.

***This review contains major spoilers for bk1***

This was every bit as well written, gripping and compelling as Playing Patience, focusing on Patience trying to overcome the immediate aftermath of the horrendous sexual abuse she suffered at the hands of her father, his death and the death of her mum. She really had a lot going on, which led to her suffering from acute anxiety attacks. So far, so gripping. But this was where I had a problem with this story. She chose to keep the crutch she used to fight the anxiety secret from Zeke, supposedly because she was ashamed. That didn't ring true for me; I found myself rolling my eyes and grinding my teeth with frustration a few times. I simply don't believe she would prefer for Zeke to think that she was cheating on him over confessing her real coping mechanism. For me, that marred this story. My other issue with it was that so much of the story was angst and misery; again, it was well written, but I prefer a little lightness and sweetness to balance the angst and there wasn't enough of that in this story for me as there was in Playing Patience.
Still worth a read if you enjoyed Playing Patience, I just didn't enjoy it as much.

Years later, all he has left of that night is a silver cross, a broken give a damn, and the unrelenting desire to drink her memory away. As the lead singer of Blow Hole, Finn has his pick of women, but none are able to squash the need he still carries around for Faith. To hate her offers some relief, but when Finn sees her again after so many years, it’s hard to despise her. Especially when every reason he had to hate her, turn out to be lies.

As the daughter of a strict Baptist preacher, Faith Warren lived sheltered from all things sinful. When she met Jimmy Finn, the epitome of all seven deadly sins, she found out exactly what she was missing. After being forced to choose between her soul and the only person in the world who made her feel alive, Faith walked away from Finn and dove head first into her father’s preferred life. But now Finn’s back and he’s getting payback by wreaking havoc on her emotions. Except sometimes bad things feel good, and Faith has to decide once again if she wants to stay in her gilded cage or fly free with the dark angel of lust himself.

This is book 2 in the Blow Hole series, this time telling the story of Faith and the band's front man, Finn. You probably could read it as a standalone, but it makes much more sense if you read the other books first. The characters from Playing and Finding Patience reappear in this.

I really, really enjoyed this.

The story was in 2 parts, the first 70% related events from four years ago and the remainder brings the story up to date.

As with the Patience books, both Faith and Finn have troubled - and in Faith's case, abusive - home lives. Faith is the daughter of a devout preacher, virginal (I know, again, although it was actually plausible in this book for once), innocent and beautiful. Finn is the rough but misunderstood guy who has been sent to do his community service at Faith's father's church. The chemistry between them is amazing in this, it gave me warm and happy tingles. It wasn't all sweetness and light though as Faith's actions drew the attention of her abusive father. The abuse scenes were gripping and felt real, so real they were hard to read at times.

At around 70% everything is going well, too well and I actually contemplated putting this down and stepping away because I knew the inevitable thing that was going to happen to pull the characters apart would be even harder to read than usual because I was so invested in the characters and because I know this author writes angst really, really well.

I'm so glad I persevered though; sure enough, it was hard to read in places, but unusually for an angst wimp like me, I actually enjoyed the second part of this story even more than the first part. Four years on, Faith has won her independence from her father and she's struggling to support herself. Meanwhile Finn is now a singer in a successful rock band, embittered and cynical towards all women, using them and discarding them. Faith ends up cleaning the band's home so we get to enjoy the experience of them falling for one another all over again, but this time with the added zing of the painful 'break-up' getting between them too.

It was hot, it was sweet and tender and in places it was dark. An excellent read.

I'd really recommend this series to anyone who enjoys bad boy rock stars or darker reads.

I loved the Characters and can not wait to read the next book but I felt the author tried to throw in a lot of teenage slang. That aside the love story between Gia and Brad was great. I got to the last page and was disappointed it was over because I wanted to keep reading about the world she created. Glad there will be a sequel to help with that.
This book was amazing! It had more twists and turns than Lombard Street and kept me on the edge of my seat wondering what direction we were headed in next! The characters were easily relatable and made you want to root for them, until another twist arose and then you started to root for a whole new set of characters! I loved the plot, the twists and the ending that I never saw coming and would never have imagined, however, it worked really well with to end the book. You will laugh, cry and scratch your head the whole time you read this book and still never get the whole plot figured out. This book was really good and I highly recommend that you read it when you have nothing else to do, because once you start, you will not want to stop!!!
I was given Loved Renewed for an honest review.

Loved Renewed was a great book that kept you saying what will happen next? Let me just say in all relationships you should never run away without getting closure. With that being said, the story starts off with Charlotte's heart broken into a billion pieces by her one true love Trevin Green and so she runs away with her best friend Jack. Charlotte hopes to move on and never see Trevin again. That was her plan until Charlotte finds herself back in her small home town 10 years later and runs into Trevin. What will Charlotte do? You will have to read Loved Renewed to find out!

Loved Renewed is a wonderful book with passion, love, heartbreak, forgiving and learning how to trust again.

This was one of the most endearing love stories I have read in a long time. The fact that two people are so in love and are able to withstand a 10 year "break" and still remember the littlest things that they used to know and love is the ultimate fairy tale romance for most women in the world today. This book was so well written and so realistic that I could picture this happening to friends or even myself. The characters are so likable and believable and the plot had some twists that you would never see coming, especially when they are unfolding. I would highly recommend this book to anyone that wants to read a good love story with a bit of mystery and suspense (just a bit). Enjoy this book and the others that C.S. Janey has written as I know that I will!!
what I was getting myself into before reading, but I don't think I was fully
prepared for it. Arianna broke my heart. I literally was brought to tears
several times at what she endured. Even through everything, the abuse, neglect,
torture and watching her husband's decent into madness...she remained hopeful
that one day she would get out. I hated Joseph in "Madeleine, Abducted" but
after reading this...I truly have no words. It's scary to think that true evil
like this can and probably does exist in this world. MS Willis is a masterful
story teller and she wove an even darker story than I imagined. A must read for
those who like dark "romance."

A college campus, a co-ed who may be a nymphomaniac...what could happen?
Just about anything...

The year is 1966. Carol is an extra-young
college freshman, away from home and the scrutiny of her parents for the first
time. Determined to explore her sexual identity she dates older men, but is
forced to wait for her eighteenth birthday to lose her virginity. But, when she
reaches that landmark, all bets are off and she is at last free to satisfy her
urges. Throughout her college years, Carol finds herself in ever more precarious
sexual escapades, until finally, she must be rescued by her roommate and a man
she has come to know as a friend. After her devastating experience in a frat
house, can she return to a life of uncomplicated sex? Will one man be able to
satisfy her after she has known forbidden pleasure with many? Must she be
deprived of the one thing that is necessary for her greatest release? And, after
all she experiences, will she be able to find her own happily-ever-after? This
is not your typical HEA romance!

WARNING: This book contains sexually

*I was given a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest
review.*

I'm not really sure how I feel about the Carol, the main
character. It was so much her sexual exploits that bothered me (though agreeing
not once but TWICE to the events that happened at the frat house shocked and
appalled me) but her nonchalance about them. Not once did I read mention of her
using protection (except with Dan). I KNOW it's fiction, but it still bothered
me. I felt like she should have seemed some type of therapy. As far as Dan goes,
that man must be a saint because there is no way a normal guy would be okay with
doing what he did for Carol. The sex scenes were plenty steamy and it was a fast
paced read.
Synopsis:

Since his youth, Gregory Stillingsworth has known his destiny: to become a great
writer. Indeed, now a wildly successful author, he has penned seventy-three
novels, all of them best-sellers. Obsessive and possessive, he writes the
old-fashioned way – on a typewriter. His instrument, beaten and tattered even
when his parents gave it to him for his fourteenth birthday, has earned a name
over the years – Buford. It has also earned a voice. Early on, it spoke to him,
repeating a simple mantra: “You and I, forever. You and I,
together.”

Gregory Stillingsworth, a world-renowned horror writer, an
author who has already surpassed the great ones like Koontz and King, was
destined to reach the top. Or was he? Was he destined, instead, to live the life
carved for him by his cursed forebears? Instinctively, it has always been
Gregory’s custom to write his books one after another. His wife, Jamie, who
serves as his lawyer, critic, and business partner, gave up convincing him to
slow down so as to focus on starting a family. Gregory is relentless in
nourishing his career; that is, until for the first time, he runs out of words,
sending him into an uncontrollable rage that even his wife cannot comprehend. Is
this unexpected rage an extreme reaction to the stresses of writer’s block? Or
is it the unveiling of his true role among us, a scribe born into this world
only to write of the coming Armageddon?

Writer’s Block: The Possession is
a dark, horror story, a psychological thriller, and a labyrinthine cryptogram
that the reader must unravel one scene at a time. With no way to tell what is
truth and what is fiction from Gregory’s perspective, the reader is led to
wonder how much of this novel is autobiographical information from the real
author’s perspective, taking the horror factor from the realm of fiction into
the realm of possibility. As part one of the Writer’s Block Trilogy, The
Possession leaves the reader on the edge of his seat, chewing his nails,
anxiously waiting for a resolution.
My Review: 4/5 stars

* I was given a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest
review.*

The beginning of the book was slow for me....i found it to be a
little wordy for my tastes. The back and forth switch form time and place kind
of threw me for a loop a few times and I had to go back a few pages and re-read
to remember where in time I was. Overall, the book was chilling and distrurbing.
Gregory (the main character) drew me in almost immediately and did NOT let go
until the very end. There were times that I had to walk away from the book,
because the sheer madness of it, was quite disturbing. I found there to be a lot
of religious references and being a non-religious person, I sometimes felt a
little lost. Not because the writing was unclear, just my understanding of that
subject is limited. A.K. Kuykendall can definitely hold his own with some of my
favortie horror/thriller writers (Dean Koontz & Stephen King). I also liked
the touch with the doll....it made the story that much more eerie . I would
definitely recommend this book to those looking for something along the lines of
what Koontz and King write.

If you're looking for a book that will stay
with you for awhile after you have finished reading it...this will do it!
Author of "The Red Sun Rises"So my lovely Amongsters....Author Victoria Kinnaird is being featured on my facebook page for this entire week! She and I had an interview/discussion about "The Red Sun Rises" (her DEBUT novel) and she also gave "A Girl Amongst Books" an EXCLUSIVE peek into the future of the Trilogy. I reviewed the book for Nerd Girl and was amazed at her descriptive writing. She has a way with words and the story drew me in with her first sentence...anyway I could go on and on about this book...without further gushing about how awesome Victoria is....here's the discussion (interview sounds too formal..lol) we had about TRSR:

*Note-for those who haven't read the book...there may be a few little spoilers but nothing too major. Proceed at your own risk..lol

A Girl Amongst Books: I personally loved Eren & Lilith. But Eren was my absolute favorite character in the book. Do you have a favorite character or maybe even a least favorite?

Victoria Kinnaird: I don't really have a single favourite, I love all my characters in their own way but of course my trio - Eren, Corbijn and Andy - hold a special place in my heart! I don't have a least favourite either, but Corbijn is definitely the hardest to write. He can be quite cold, as a character, but Eren loves him so it's important that the readers love him as well! I would like to think that people see what Eren sees, despite Corbijn's reservations!

I definitely can see where Corbijin could be difficult. His whole "I'm not your boyfriend" comments really makes me want to smack him!

I've heard you say that you struggled w/TRSR while writing it (at least when you first started). Was it writer's block? Insecurities? Or just stubborn characters?

Victoria Kinnaird: I did struggle with it, I was writing it on and off for five years! It was nothing to do with the characters, I've always had a really good connection with my characters, it was a combination of insecurity and real life getting in the way. I was forever starting it, getting a couple of chapters in, deciding it was rubbish and scrapping it, only to come back to it a few months later because my characters - Eren in particular - just would not leave me alone. It went on like that for years. Eventually, I worked up the courage to show what I was writing to my friends, and their support really spurned me on to finally finish it!

A Girl Amongst Books: I'm glad that your friends were supportive! This story needed to be written! I think sometimes in YA its either ALL or nothing and you showed how "it" (meaning sex, relationships, etc) can be written without being OVERLY descriptive. I'm a mom , to a 7 yr old & 3 yr old and even though they aren't ready for these types of books, yet...when the time comes for them to read "older" themed books, i'll "screen" them before i allow them to read. Sometimes YA seems to cross over an "invisible" line into "grown-up" territory. If you know what I mean...lol

Victoria Kinnaird: All Hallows is not based on anywhere in particular, it's very much my vision of a small, American town!
A Girl Amongst Books: Now, let's talk a little about the "villian" in your book.
Lord Gaunt is "the bad guy".... He's obsessed with Corbijin and I personally feel the reason is because he wants to right a wrong. We get a little information about what happened in TRSR. Will it tie into the next 2 books in the trilogy?

Victoria Kinnaird: Gaunt is an interesting character because it would be so easy to simply paint him as a villain - and lots of people, including Gaunt, do that. They don't want to see that there may be depth there because Gaunt's back story is kind of tragic. He killed the man he loved - the only man he loved - in a fit of rage, and he has spent hundreds of years tracking the reincarnated soul of that man down in the hope that he could have a second chance. To me, there is something kind of romantic about that. Of course, what Gaunt does not realise, is that Corbijn is not that man - although Gaunt never gives up hope. He knows, deep down, that his love is lost forever but he's determined to keep trying! Gaunt does pop up in Book 2 and there is a scene with him that gives a real insight into his character.

A Girl Amongst Books: I think that this is an amazing book with believeable characters (even though they are fictitious characters). The emotions that they feel are almost palpable. While I was reading the book I personally felt like I knew the characters, like I could relate to some of their issues. This book isn't your typical YA vampire novel. It's so much more than that and I am glad I read it.

That being said, Is there anything you'd like to say to anyone who's read or is considering reading your book?

Leigh<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Good Morning, Amongsters! I've got some exciting news! The lovely and witty T.K. Leigh graciously allowed me to interview the oh so handsome and somewhat intimidating (I mean he IS drop dead gorgeous) Alexander Burnham a<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;"> few weekends ago. H<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">e is a busy m<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">an so the interview wasn't as long as I was hoping it would be, but he was kind enough to answer my questions and quite a good sport about it. Mr. Burnham is quite the busy man and it was hard to find time to meet up with him, but I found time and drove to Boston, specifically for this interview. (I mean come on...YOU would too!) We met at a little coffee shop not to far away from his office, "Burnham & Associates."

So without further delay....here is the interview!

I'm sitting at a little table in the coffee shop, people watching when a man, a VERY good-looking man walks into the coffee shop, in a crisp 3 piece suit. ALL eyes are on him as he casually walks over to the table and gives me a warm smile. MAN...that smile is enough to make me completely lose my train of thought.) He sits down and quick introductions are made. I can't help but let my hand linger a little when we shake hands. I'm fidgeting in my chair....he's ordering a coffee when I decide it's time to start the interview before I throw myself across the table at him (I remind myself that I am a MARRIED woman and it would be quite unprofessional to throw myself at a man i'm interviewing, not to mention this man is a complete stranger. I have no doubts that he hasn't had tons of women throwing themselves at him.)

A Girl Amongst Books:
(I'm smiling like a 10 year old girl at a Justin Beiber concert.)

Hi, Mr. Burnham, thanks for agreeing to this interview. I'm sure my readers would love to learn a little more about you.

I've been hearing lots of talk about your business....Burnham & Associates. Could you tell my readers a little about what you do? What made you want to pursue this type of career?

Alexander Burnham:

Well, Burnham & Associates was a company my father started around the same time I was born. He had worked special-ops in the C.I.A., and was never really around that much, which infuriated my mother. So he ended up retiring and taking his C.I.A. training to start his own private security company. Over the years he built it up into one of the most prestigious firms in the world. We do quite a bit, from training people to go overseas and assist various countries with whatever they need, protecting natural resources, air support and escorts, and some other classified operations that I’m not at liberty to discuss. It wasn’t anything I ever saw myself doing, but after my father died unexpectedly about five years ago, I obtained an honorable discharge from the Navy and came home to run the company.

A Girl Amongst Books:

I'm sorry for your loss. I can't imagine losing a parent, especially unexpectedly.

While we are on the topic of family, Do you spend a lot of time with your family in your spare time?

Alexander Burnham:

A bit. Mom does a bit of traveling so she’s not around a whole lot. My older sister, Carol, is a detective with Boston P.D. And my little brother, Tyler, goes to Boston University. So we’re all in town and try to get together as much as possible. Work and school get in the way a bit, but I can always find time to go grab a drink with either one of them, especially now that Tyler is able to drink legally.

A Girl Amongst Books:

Being the busy man that you are...what do you do for fun? or to relax?

Alexander Burnham:

I have varied tastes. I love living in Boston and being able to head out of my penthouse to go for a run around this city. Running the Charles River or through Boston Common is one of my favorite Sunday morning activities, particularly since I adopted this dog who has more energy than I signed on for. I’m a big fan of baseball. I never really got into football or any other sport like a lot of guys do. I’m a sucker for a ball park and a hot dog. And of course, growing up in New England, I’m a die hard Red Sox fan. Born and raised. I was a fan before we won the series in 2004. It was a tragic and lonely existence. I’m just glad my Dad was still alive to see them finally win the World Series after 86 years.

A Girl Amongst Books:

(Now that I'm getting a little more comfortable, i'm getting ready to ask a few, personal questions and I start to fidget...i hope he's not noticing.)

Being the very successful (and may I say), very good-looking man that you are...do you find the time to date? I mean running a private security firm isn't your typical 9-5 job.
Is their a someone special??

Alexander Burnham:

(He gives me a devilish grin)

Why, thank you. Um, I'm not one to really talk about my personal life all that much. What I will say is that there's always been a special someone in my life. Since as far back as I can remember, there's been only one girl that I couldn't get out of my mind. I'm sure you've heard all about my reputation among women, just like the rest of the country has. I do have the reputation to be a bit of a "player" I guess. But I've just been waiting to find that girl that stole my heart years ago, I guess.

A Girl Amongst Books:

(okay that last answer really made me melt....I need to change topics for a few minutes to collect myself.)

Tracy mentioned you enjoy music...what types do you like to listen too?

Alexander Burnham:

A little bit of everything really. Dave Matthews, Jason Mraz, John Mayer, Damien Rice, to name just a few. What a lot of people don’t know about me is that I’ve been playing guitar and piano for as long as I can remember. A family friend taught me how to play when I was a little boy and I never really stopped. So I tend to gravitate toward music that I can see myself playing. I love music and love discovering new bands that not a lot of people know about yet.

A Girl Amongst Books:

I'm sure Tracy mentioned to you that I run a book blog, so my next question should come as no surpise. Do you like to read? If so, what's the last thing you read?

Alexander Burnham:

I do like to read, but unfortunately my job demands a great deal of my time. So I'm usually too busy to read for pleasure. The last thing I read was a report about one of my overseas security operations. Not the thrilling stuff I'm sure you're looking for.

A Girl Amongst Books:

(Laughs)

No, definitely not. But if you ever find the time to read, I'm sure I could recommend a few books you may enjoy.

(It's getting to be late afternoon and I don't want to keep him much longer, plus i need to make the trip back to Jersey before my husband thinks i ran away with Mr. Burnham. So i start to gather my things as we are talking about things that i might enjoy seeing in Boston. I thank him for his time and as when I reach my car...i remember there was ONE question that I didn't ask...and I REALLY need the answer to, so i take a deep breath and call out to him as he is walking down the road to his office.)

A Girl Amongst Books:

Oh, Mr. Burnham....I have one more question...I hope you won't mind too much.

Boxers or Briefs??

Alexander Burnham:

Boxer Briefs, actually. (He gives me that devilish grin again and turns and walks off.)

END OF INTERVIEW!

I hope you all enjoyed the interview and maybe learned something new about the oh so sexy Mr. Alexander Burnham. I need to make sure to thank T.K. Leigh for setting up the interview.

Our strong, female heroine in this passionate journey is Abigail Brown, a 28-year-old divorcee who has never had an orgasm, much to her chagrin. Despite being self-conscious about what she considers to be her body's 'failings', she has built a terrific life for herself in the quaint, lakeside town of Harbor Shores, Michigan.

She thinks that she has discovered her 'happily ever after' ending when she stumbles upon the perfect man, who shows her the intense sensual bliss that her body is capable of enjoying. It is smooth sailing for Abby, until a second Mr. Perfect comes along and rocks her world!

"Taking Chances" is a fun, contemporary romance novel that follows Abby's story through the complications of being entangled in a sensual love-triangle. She discovers and begins to embrace her sexuality along the way and decides that she'll grab at the chance to experience true love.
***THIS BOOK WAS GIVEN TO ME IN EXCHANGE FOR AN HONEST REVIEW****

I was totally prepared for this to be the "typical" romance-y, chick-lit read. You know the kind i'm talking about...the main character is your average, everyday girl next door and on a spur of the moment incident, she finds her knight
in shining armor. From then on the story is pretty predictable. Well, this book didn't really fit into that scenario, well maybe in the beginning but it definitely has a few twists and turns that came unexpectedly.

The beginning of the book was pretty even paced, maybe even a little predictable, but the banter between Abby and Courtney kept me reading. Once Abby meets Seth (or Sumptuous Seth as she
fondly refers to him) it REALLY picks up. Something is awakened inside of Abby (in MORE ways than one) and she comes into her own.
There is a part in the book where Seth asks her to a benefit and the book takes an interesting turn. I don't want to elaborate too much for fear of ruining it for those who haven't read it.
But I was NOT expecting it! From this point the book gets even juicier and i didn't realize how fast I was turning the pages until I got to the end and realized it was a CLIFFHANGER!
I immediately went to see if the next book is out (which by the way it is NOT but will be entitled "Making Choices).

This was a fun, easy read with some steamy scenes and funny banter. I can't wait to read "Making Choices," because I KNOW what choice I want Abby to make!

***Review has been done in conjunction with Nerd Girl Official. *Changing Fate Bonus Scene*

This takes place the night at the club when Zack and Kate double date with Ray and Rachel. The scene is from Zack’s Point of View.

I could not have been more anxious to get the girls and get to the club tonight. I rushed Ray all afternoon once I got to his Condo and he told me the plan. I couldn’t wait to get my hands on my feisty little play date. Kate… Her name is Kate and did man did I really want to play twister with her.

There’s an idea…Twister bed sheets!

When she opened the door and I saw her standing there in that red dress and those shoes. Shit! I nearly blew my load right there in front of her parents and half the neighborhood. I should have bought a fire extinguisher when I stopped to buy condoms. This chick is going to make me burst into flames.

I sit in the chair beside her as Rachel and Ray head off to dance. "Play nice kids." Ray teases.

OH you have no idea… Maybe if I ask real nice, she will let me play right here? Yeah I’m an asshole I know, but I’m not thinking with the head that has a brain in it right now…

After a major junk adjustment and a long uncomfortable silence I smile at Kate. "So Babe, what does it take to get into your VIP lounge?" I ask as I run my fingers up her thigh.

A smile spreads across her face and she stands to her feet, coming to stand in front of me. My mouth is watering at the thought of her straddling me right here, then she slams her heeled foot into my already throbbing crotch. "Shit! OW!" I yelp, as she twists her spiked heel apparently carving her name across my dick. Her eyes meet mine and I can’t help but get lost in those deep browns.

"Listen here you arrogant bastard. When I let you passed the velvet barrier, you won’t ever want to leave. Chill with the cocky bullshit. It doesn’t work on me." Turning away she sits back down and crosses one leg over the other and I swear I die a little when her dress rides up almost revealing her ass.

"My God Sweetheart, I don’t think I have ever been this turned on in my entire life. " I groan as her eyes rake over my body.

"I hate you." She snaps.

"I want you to." I reply, because I do I want her to hate me really hard!

Leaping into my lap, she slams her mouth down onto mine and my dick is banging on my zipper like the police at a crack house raid. She yanks my hair as I slide my hands up, pulling her harder against me. She pulls away just as quickly and I seriously wanna cry for my dick right now. He is SO being lead on here, he doesn’t understand the game Kate and I are playing… Hell I don’t either but I am loving this shit! No one challenges me, no one says no…ever. I mean shit I am Zack Mitchell!

Kate settles back in her chair and completely unaffected reapplies her lip gloss. I am panting and all I want to do is go caveman and drag her the hell out of here. "I want to dance Zack, I want to have a conversation, and maybe even breakfast." She starts as she closes her bag and meets my eyes. "Then I will wreck you, ruin you and make you scream." She says calmly and…yep my heart stopped. MEDIC MAN DOWN!

"I’ll give you my first born and anything else you want except my car if you will come home with me right now." I say dropping to my knees in front of her.

"I’m worth it… You wait baby because you’ll give it all to me anyway and then some." She deadpans as she runs her thumb across my lips. Holy shit… I have no doubt. What is happening to me? I usually couldn’t give two shits. Once they say no, I am done and moving on to the next fine piece of ass. With Kate, I want to drag it out, and enjoy it. I want to see where it goes with us, what we can have.

"Come on Kate, dance with me Sweetheart?" I beg. Holy hell! This chick has me begging and not for sex, she has me begging to dance?

She grins, knowing she has me and damn it she does. She has me by the balls. "Only because you ask so nicely." She replies.

After she talks to her sister and Ray reminds me once again not to be an asshole, they leave and Kate drags me to the dance floor, and somewhere along the way since I met her I think I lost the heart I didn’t think I had.

"There is something about love, the true kind of love that puts off such heat and emotion. It makes your stomach roll and your heart clench. It completely knocks your feet out from under you. That feeling where you don’t know whether to laugh, cry, or throw something. That is what I want to write about, what I want to capture; that is life. It is real."Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8036569394836403720.post-86396968466571605382013-10-16T04:55:00.000-07:002013-10-16T04:55:31.909-07:00Cover Reveal for B.A. Wolfe's "Away" plus a Giveaway!

Title: Away

She was meant to be his destruction…
A pawn played in a perilous game between
father and son…
Yet, her strength was more than either
man could imagine.
As Maddy learns to save herself…
She becomes the one thing that could
set the son free.

Madeleine Clark was raised to become a concert cellist. Sheltered and naïve, she remains hidden behind her music, a protection from the world around her. On the night of her first solo performance, Maddy accepts the admiration of a stranger and finds herself captive in a cruel and twisted power struggle between a sadistic father and his son, Aaron.

Seemingly, dangerous and uncaring, Aaron manages the business operations of his father’s estate. Wanting nothing to do with the slaves kept at the Estate, Aaron refuses to take part in the deeper depravities of his father. Despite his resistance, Aaron’s father ‘gifts’ him with a petite, brunette woman he can’t refuse.

A bond forged in conspiracy and deceit, Aaron struggles to save Maddy by teaching her to survive in the world in which he’d been raised. An unlikely union, Aaron soon learns that great strengths can exist within small packages, while Madeleine learns that love and light can exist in the darkest of places.
"I would prefer you call me by my name." She peaked up at him through her lashes. "Maddy, I would prefer that you call me Maddy." Aaron stopped with his bare back turned to her, taking several minutes to finally respond, he asked, "What makes you think you are allowed to ask that? If I wanted, I could call you slave…" He turned to face her, the contours of chest perfectly shadowed, his strength unquestionable. "…or whore." She could feel his gaze touching her skin, his perusal of the woman barely half his size. The heat of his body rolled off of him as he circled her. It was the feeling of a soft blanket and lustful threat wrapped around her at the same time. When the deep resonation of his voice occurred again, she cringed, fearing he would strike out at her for the incorrect answer. "Why do you dislike the name I have given you?"

Gripping her under her chin, Aaron pulled her face up to look at him, his eyes searching hers for the answer to his question. "You will speak when I tell you." Dropping his hand from her face, he took a step back placing distance between them. "Now answer me."

Her heart pounded against the walls of her chest, her throat constricted, making it difficult for her to breath. Fear consumed her as she stood in the shadow of the man who’d taken at least two lives that day. Barely a whisper, her voice squeaked out the answer to his question. "Because a mouse is a furry little rodent, something detested."

Aaron stood thoughtful and silent above her. When he didn’t respond, Maddy quietly added, "I guess it’s better than Xander’s name for me."

Laughter bellowed out, causing the toned muscles of Aaron’s broad chest to flex and relax before her eyes. The sound of his amusement so real, it caused her to want to smile in response to seeing a piece of his mask falling away, revealing parts of him not witnessed by many people. Containing himself, Aaron’s eyes sparkled as he asked, "And what, exactly, is Xander’s name for you?"

A scowl creased the fine skin between her eyes, her mouth pulled into the pout of a sulking child. "He calls me ‘cricket’…an insect. It’s odd that you both refer to me as nothing more than a common household pest."

Aaron’s smile faltered as he looked down upon the beautiful girl who didn’t fully understand her role. "No, Madeleine, you are not a common household pest…"

Maddy looked up at him, anticipating what he would say next.

For a fleeting second, he looked genuinely amused, but his expression was quickly replaced with indifference and contempt as he stated, "you are lower than even a pest in your role as a slave."
Excerpt #2 –

Green, the color of jade, the color of budding life in Spring, burned down into her; backlit and heated by a fire of rage, of need. Aaron’s mouth curved at the ends, an unknown thought amusing to him as she attempted to stand up to a man who controlled her completely…owned her in a way that no man should be allowed.

Like lightning, he moved quickly, so fast and unexpected, that Maddy gasped when the weight of his body came down on her. The pills fell from her hand to the floor as Aaron pushed her back on the bed, held his body above her, his hand roughly traveling up the side of her torso, lifting her shirt to expose her breasts to his gaze. "If I wanted to take you, Madeleine, I wouldn’t have to drug you to do so." The heat of his mouth stung as he wrapped his full lips around the peak of her breast. His tongue laved against the sensitive tip, his teeth grazing the same area where he had marked her before. A cry escaped her lips, part fear, part surprise; part lust so subtle, it caused her heart to skip in its rhythm. As he worked her body into a frenzy, his hand traveled down to cup her between her thighs. A single finger tapped against the opening to her body, she cried out again, not understanding the heat that bloomed within her core. He pushed up suddenly, watched as she lay panting beneath him. "Even if your mind did not remember my cruelty, your body certainly would. The pain of being split apart when I bury myself within you cannot be easily forgotten…even if done while drugged."

Just as quickly as he’d come down on top of her, he stood. His eyes searched the floor and when he found the pills, he bent over to pick them up. This time not an offer, but a demand, his hand reached to wrap around her face, squeezing her cheeks until her mouth fell open. Shoving the pills onto her tongue he grabbed the glass of water, poured the contents down her throat, washing her new form of chains down into her body. "I have no plans to grant you the satisfaction of my cock, I simply want you to sleep. I don’t feel like spending the evening jumping up every time I think you are attempting to escape."

Aaron took the glass and as he walked to place it in the bathroom he commanded, "Lay down, Maddy, close your eyes and let sleep take you. That will be the only thing having its way with your body tonight."
Book Synopsis:

Bounty hunter Rafe Montana is a Seer, descended from the fabled Atlanteans. He uses his inherited power to "see" criminals across the globe and track them down, and he’s just started on a new case. Danny Cangialosi is accused of disappearing with a stolen car…but for the first time in his life, when Rafe goes looking, he is unable to "see" him. Instead, his search leads him to Danny’s stubborn, meddling, and very cute stepsister, Cara McGaffigan.

Cara is looking for Danny, too, but not to turn him in. He is her brother, after all, and she’s convinced he has a good heart. If she can just find him before the cops do, she’ll figure out a way to get him out of this. But Cara didn’t count on a scorching-hot bounty hunter getting in her way.

Despite instant chemistry, Rafe and Cara know they’re never going to see eye-to-eye when it comes to Danny. What they don’t know is that Danny didn’t just steal a car—he stole a precious stone, a stone right out of the legends of Atlantis. It holds powers they can only dream of…and its owner wants it back.
As soon as she hit the carpet, she scrambled forward on her hands and knees. Where was the pepper spray? Had it slid under the coffee table? But he caught her ankle and yanked her flat on her belly. Before she could right herself, he was looming over her on all fours, trapping her. For an instant his hips pressed against her rear. Her stomach did a little flip at the intimate position, muscles trembling with a sudden burst of arousal. He flipped her onto her back, then pinned her down in a primitive move that male had used on female since the beginning of time.
His face looked like stone, his body a cage of lean, hard muscle. He smelled of citrus and sandalwood and fabric softener. Heat swept through her limbs, warmed her belly.
No way. She wasn’t going there. She didn’t care how good he smelled.
"No." He grabbed her hands and pinned them to the floor above her head, then shifted to manacle one hand around both her wrists. "You’re not playing nice, Cara."
"You can call me Rafe." He yanked off the sunglasses that sat crookedly on her face and tossed them aside. "Let’s see what’s going on with you."

3 1/2 stars

Overall the book was good. The characters are pretty well developed and the plot for the most part flows smoothly. There were a few times in the book when I have second thoughts about the main character, Rafe. The ending wasn't what I had hoped but i'm interested in where the author will take the next book.
